Hand Held Memory Hoodie

This work presents a contemporary artistic vision of Emirati history through a set of playing cards that embody three pivotal elements of national identity: the forts, representing protection and resilience; the pearl diving era, the lifeblood and spirit of struggle; and the henna-adorned hands of Emirati women, symbolizing giving and community building. The playing cards were specifically chosen for their collective and interactive nature, passing from hand to hand just as stories, memories, and heritage are passed down from generation to generation. Their tangible and simple nature allows for a spontaneous and relatable reading of history, with each card becoming a small gateway to a significant moment in the nation's history.
